Beaches in Goa

Goa is well known for its spectacular beaches. North or south, it is beautiful everywhere. There are many historical places in Goa but most of the tourists visit Goa only for the beaches. The peak tourist season for any beach in Goa is during Christmas and New Year, and during the summer in May. In the monsoon season, from June through September, the sea can be rough and swimming is prohibited.

Goa is famous for its beaches right from Palolem in the south to Keri in the north. The multitude of beaches in Goa offer something for everyone, from luxury resorts to makeshift huts, and trance parties to tranquility. The Goa beach that's right for you will depend on the kind of experience you want to have.      * hint : If you are looking for parties and pubs beaches in North Goa are the destinations for you!

Churches in Goa

Old Goa is a UNESCO world heritage site and is famed for its opulent buildings and churches reminiscent of the glory days of "Golden Goa". It was abandoned by the Portuguese officially in 1843 when the capital was moved to Panaji. Today, most of the remaining buildings and churches are maintained by the A.S.I and the church services are maintained by the Archdiocese of Goa.

Churches in Goa are aesthetically designed and consist of paintings that are fixed on beautifully designed floral panels. These magnificent buildings are legacies of the Portuguese culture and social life, and are still maintained by the Christians of this area. In Goa educational contribution of the churches is immense. Most of the churches in Goa are now a part of Archdiocese of Goa.

Wildlife in Goa

Goa one of the smallest states in India within its limited area has four wild life sanctuaries.  Though these wild life sanctuaries in Goa are not very vast they sure provide a change during a beach holiday in Goa. The Bhagwan Mahaveer, Bondla, Cotigao, and Dr.Salim Ali Wild life sanctuaries are open to visitors interested in a glimpse of Goa's natural environment.

Goa is the only state in India which has protected the complete Western Ghats section within the state. The Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary  fall within the Mhadei River basin. Mhadei Sanctuary is noted for its many waterfalls, especially the twin Vazra Sakla waterfalls and the Virdi Falls in the Chorla Ghats region on the Goa Karnataka border. An area of high biodiversity Mhadei is considered to become a Project Tiger tiger reserve.

Events in Goa

Goa is one of the most colorful states in the country and festivals are an integral part of Goan life. Every little hamlet in Goa has a tiny temple or a church with a special annual 'jatra' or a feast. Revelry, music and dance, flow through the blood of the Goan community which reflects in the large number of festivals celebrated in Goa.

Asia’s biggest music festival – Sunburn Goa 2014 to be held in Vagator between the 27th - 29th December will get more intense and vibrant with insane activities for dance lovers. Sunburn 14 will host Trance, House, Electro, Techno, Drum & Bass, Psy-trance, Experimental music  and more! Agonda

Agonda is a long pristine stretch of beach in south Goa just north of Palolem. Most mobile phone connections do not work in Agonda but for Vodafone which is an added bonus for those looking forward to a quiet and relaxed holiday. Agonda beach stretches for around 3 kilometers and it's lined with simple beach shacks. Hawkers aren't allowed on the Agonda beach.

Agonda is a traditional fishing village and life here is quiet and peaceful. Agonda beach is not the ideal for swimming as the seas here can be quite rough. Agonda Beach basically has one long road parallel to the beach where most of the beach huts and cottages are located in Agonda. Agonda church is located almost at the centre of the 3 km road. Agonda beach is famous as a Ridley turtle nesting site.
